An advertising objective is a precisely formulated communication task that must be accomplished within a certain period of time and is aimed at a specific target audience. It serves as a guide in developing an advertising strategy and is the main criterion for evaluating the success of an advertising campaign.

Objectives can be classified into three main categories: 1) Informative (for example, to inform the market about a new product), 2) Persuasive (to change perceptions or stimulate an immediate purchase), and 3) Reminder (to keep the brand in the minds of consumers). A properly defined advertising objective must be SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) in order to be effectively used in evaluating results.
