Baden-Baden is the name of a major search algorithm introduced by the Russian search engine Yandex in March 2017. This algorithm was created with the main goal of improving the quality of search results by combating certain types of spam practices.

Specifically, the Baden-Baden filter targets websites that use excessively “re-optimized” or keyword-stuffed texts. These texts are often created not to be useful to users, but to manipulate the site’s rankings. The algorithm identifies and penalizes content that is artificially loaded with a large number of keyword phrases, leading to a deterioration in readability and user experience.

In fact, this filter can be seen as operating on two main levels. First, it can be applied to specific queries, resulting in a selective reduction in the site’s position in the results for only the phrase that has been over-optimized. Second, it can be applied to the entire site, leading to a significant and overall decrease in its search engine ranking.
