The “careers” or “open positions” page is an optional page where you can share with people who visit your site the open positions at your company. In addition to providing an opportunity for people who like your business to check if there is a vacancy that suits their skills without hoping to find it on job search platforms, “careers” is another place on your site where you can talk about your company, policies and values.
This page should have the following elements:
Company history
The company history is here so that those who do not know you and do not know enough about you can get this valuable information. It also demonstrates openness and a willingness to dialogue. Of course, this information is not necessary in its entirety on the “careers” page. Therefore, you will only put a shortened version here, and if you wish (recommended), you could add a link to the “about us” or “about the company” page.
However, it would be nice to share here not only what the history of your company is, but also why it is like this. What are your internal motivations for being in this industry, what are you trying to do better and what values are you based on, walking this path.
Current information
Make sure that this page is maintained and updated continuously. It is better to write that you currently have no open positions than to have them available on your site for months and people continue to send their applications without receiving a response.
The information that should be available on this page is not only related to the open positions, but also, as we mentioned above, to your company. Therefore, the number of offices, working hours (of the company, but also of the positions, if any and if they differ) should be indicated here.
Department
Jobs should be divided into departments, which will make the search for the job desired by your potential employee easier. In fact – possible. The only reason people search hard in unorganized information is strong motivation. However, there is no reason to assume that the most competent candidates have the desire to rummage through a long chaotic list to find a position that might suit them.
Workplace
Although it is now accepted as normal to work from home, it should be described whether this is possible. Regardless of your home office policy, it is absolutely essential to list the location of the workplace for each position, especially if they are different, but it would also be much more convenient for job seekers to see this information in the description of each individual position, rather than in a single place – on the “careers” page itself. The latter can be avoided if the location of the workplace is listed above the ads with sufficiently large elements – for example, a map that goes from one end of the page to the other. However, you should keep in mind that some people may end up directly on the ad page (for example, if a friend or employee of yours sent it to them) and this information should be available there as well.
Employee Benefits
People don’t work solely for a salary. It is, of course, a major motivating force when we start our careers, but over time this changes. The atmosphere, colleagues, the personality of our immediate supervisor and our bosses are increasingly valued, but not least – social benefits.
A sports card, a casual dress day (if formal attire is expected the rest of the week), a day when the company pays for lunch, team building, additional health insurance, half-day work on Fridays, massages, a healthy eating day or other similar benefits, the purpose of which is to make the employees’ time in your company more pleasant and desirable.
All of this should be described.
Employee testimonials (optional)
In cases where you want to show how great a workplace you offer, you could include testimonials from your employees. They can share what they like about your company, which will not only make it easier for you to gain the trust of potential candidates, but you will also learn something interesting about your employees – what they actually like. What you are doing right.
