Economic Environment

The economic environment encompasses the factors that affect consumers’ purchasing power and spending patterns. These factors include interest rates, inflation, income levels, tax policies, and the general state of the economy (e.g., recession or boom).

Marketers must constantly monitor and analyze the economic environment because it directly affects consumers’ ability and willingness to buy. For example, during an economic downturn, companies may focus on “value” and offer cheaper, more functional products.
