Engine (in Bulgarian often called “Двигатель”) is a slang term in web development and SEO, which is used to describe the software system or platform that manages and drives a website, especially in the content management part. Most often, “engine” is associated with a Content Management System (CMS).
Conceptually, the “engine” is the basic architecture that separates content from design. It allows webmasters and editors to publish, edit and manage the content of the site without the need for direct coding. Platforms such as WordPress, Joomla or Drupal are examples of CMS “engines”.
From an SEO point of view, the choice of CMS “engine” is critical, as it affects the technical capabilities for optimization – generating clean code, loading speed, managing meta tags and URL structure. A good “engine” provides SEO-Friendly architecture.
