A geo-dependent query is a search in which the results displayed to a user differ significantly depending on their geographic location (region, city, or country). The search engine automatically determines or the user manually selects their location to get locally relevant results.
Conceptually, a geo-dependent query reflects local user intent. When a user searches for general phrases like “restaurant,” “lawyer,” or “weather,” the algorithm understands that they need results that are physically close to their current location. The search engine re-orients the SERP to include maps (Google Maps) and local businesses (Google Business Profile).
