Google officially launched the service in November 2005 following its acquisition of a company called Urchin. Today, Google Analytics is the most widely adopted web analytics service across the internet. It functions by using a small piece of tracking code, often called “page tags,” which users are required to install on every page of their website.
These tags gather data about each individual page visit and transmit that information to the Google Analytics servers for detailed processing. Once the data is analyzed, users are able to view comprehensive details about their site traffic within their Google Analytics account interface.
