Idea screening is the second step in the new product development process, which involves reviewing the ideas generated in order to identify the best ones and discard the unviable ones as quickly as possible. The goal is to reduce the number of ideas to a manageable number.
Since development costs increase significantly with each successive stage, early screening is critical to saving resources. Ideas are evaluated based on internal criteria (e.g., whether they meet the company’s goals and resources) and external criteria (e.g., market potential and competitive advantage).
