A “Login” page is obviously only necessary for those platforms that offer registration. Their function is to allow users to log in to their account on your site or access a system located at another address (domain or subdomain).

This page should have the following details.

Logo

The logo, of course, follows users to every page where the main menu is available, as it is advisable to place it there. However, login and registration pages often have neither navigation nor footer, therefore, the logo will also disappear, being part of them.

Regardless of whether you have left the site navigation on this page, a good place for your logo on the login, registration and forgotten password pages is just above the form to fill in. This will remind users once again which site they are on.

Title

The forms for registration, login, password change and any other similar actions that you offer your users could be very similar. That is why it is a good idea to title them according to the action that the user will perform by filling in their data.

Account entry field

It is a good idea to provide in your system the possibility of logging in with more than one account identifier. These could be:

  • Username
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Automatically generated identification number (ID)

Password input field

The password input field should hide the entered data, but offer an option to display what was written if the user wants to make sure that they have written their password correctly.

Password reset link

Everyone has forgotten their password for an account at some point. It is good if the option to reset the password is visible on the page where it would be necessary. Don’t make users write you emails or search everywhere on the site how to reset their password. This link should be close to the password input field.

Link to registration

Sometimes we end up on a “Login” page, actually trying to register. It is also possible that the user has forgotten any kind of registration data that they made on your site years ago, in addition, it is likely that the user was redirected directly to this page, coming from another site, or from a search engine. In any case, placing a link to the registration page is an action that could make it easier for the user.

Login via a third party (optional)

If your system has the ability to register through Apple, Facebook, Twitter or Google services, it is expected that you will also provide the ability to log in through these platforms.

System News

If you have changed something in the system, notify users on this page so they can expect the change when they log in and are not surprised that something has changed that might make them doubt whether they are in the right place.
