Motive (Drive)

A Motive (or Drive) is a need that is urgent enough to compel a person to seek a way to satisfy it. When a need reaches a high enough level of intensity, it becomes a motive.

Motivation is the driving force behind consumer behavior. Marketers must identify and activate the motives associated with their product by positioning their brand as a means of satisfying these basic needs (e.g., the need for security, belonging, recognition).
