Occasion segmentation

Occasion segmentation is the division of the market into groups based on when consumers think about buying something, when they actually make the purchase, or when they use the purchased product.

An example of occasion segmentation is buying flowers for Valentine’s Day, chocolate for Christmas, or a trip for an anniversary. Marketers can encourage consumption on certain occasions or create new occasions for consumption of their product.
