Product Adaptation

Product adaptation is a strategy for international markets in which a product is adapted (modified) to meet local conditions or the desires of foreign markets. It is the opposite of product standardization.

Adaptation may involve changes in design, labeling, packaging, color, or features to accommodate local tastes, climate conditions, legal requirements, or electrical standards. Product adaptation often increases costs, but it increases market relevance and the chances of success in the foreign market.
