The Service-Profit Chain is the chain that connects a service firm’s profits to employee and customer satisfaction. It provides a framework for understanding how value is created in service businesses.

The chain includes five links: 1) Internal service quality (selection, employee training); 2) Satisfied and productive employees; 3) Greater service value (effective and efficient service); 4) Satisfied and loyal customers; and 5) Healthy company profits and growth.
