An editorial is a type of article, traditionally published in newspapers and magazines, but in modern times, online as well. The difference between an ordinary article and an editorial is that the editorial presents the opinion of the editor or the publication itself.

Much like the column, an editorial is also focused on current affairs, topics, or trending events.

Unlike regular news reporting, where traditionally the goal is an objective and fact-based representation of the events, editorials are subjective and aim to influence public opinion, spark discussion, or propose a solution.

If the media is open to receiving letters to the editor, this option (or the answers to letters in traditional media) is placed on the same page as the editorial.

An editorial is usually a written piece expressing a viewpoint, but sometimes in vlogs similar approach could be taken, where the vlogger sits down and writes about a specific current issue, and then reads it from a teleprompter. This communication manner is not usually defined as an editorial, but it is way too similar and could be considered the modern-day editorial.
