Endorsement

Mass Communication

Endorsement refers to the act of publicly supporting or approving a product, service, idea, or person, often to influence others’ opinions or buying decisions.

It is a form of declaration of approval or recommendation.

Endorsement is usually conducted by a celebrity, an expert, or another type of influential figure who publicly supports or recommends a product, service, idea, or person to influence others’ opinions or behaviors.

Unfortunately, endorsing a product does not necessarily mean being an expert in the industry or the product itself.

For example, a famous athlete appears in commercials saying they use and trust a particular brand of toothpaste, encouraging fans to buy the same brand. The athlete is obviously not in a position to evaluate the toothpaste, yet, they have influence over a certain group of people, and are possibly changing their behavior.
