The editor is a person who reviews and refines an article or another type of content. The editor’s role is to approve or disapprove the publication of a piece of content.
Although the editor reviews, refines, and shapes the content to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and quality before it reaches the audience, they have a bit different task than the copyreader.
The copyreader focuses mainly on correcting the language mechanics, like grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and style consistency, while the editor focuses on improving the overall content structure, clarity, tone, and flow. The editor might also manage the content planning.
Therefore, the copyreader takes care of the content on a more surface level, whereas the editor deals with both surface details and possible deeper content issues, including, but not limited to, organization of the piece and its message.
